Finalists for the WILL BEE 2024 Innovation Award : pioneering projects for sustainable construction
On 24 September, from 3.30pm, the WILL BEE Innovation Awards will welcome 13 finalists to a public final where each project will be presented in 180 seconds.
The shortlist includes innovations from Switzerland, the UK, Sweden and Belgium, reflecting the diversity and creativity that are shaping the future of construction.
This year’s finalists cover a broad spectrum of initiatives, from the enhancement of invasive species in construction to the promotion of new ways of using raw earth, as well as innovative architectural solutions for the habitat of solitary bees. Other projects focus on the vitality and statics of trees using advanced measurement systems, or on integrating low-tech approaches, reuse and the use of bio-based materials.
Other innovations include the recycling of ash into potassium fertiliser for agriculture, digital platforms for the transparent sharing of data in the wood supply chain, new applications of wood chemistry to create fragrances, nutraceuticals or biodegradable bioplastics, as well as grass-based insulation, organic mortars and even autonomous public toilets using human urine as a natural fertiliser.
